Sparkle the Cow welcomes you to Little Creek Farm.

Chicken, Duck and Turkey

Chickens are raised on pasture from May to November. The MOFGA-certified organic birds are moved to fresh grass every day, and enjoy a diet of organic grain, insects, clover and grasses. We raise our chickens using a ‘day-range’ system where the birds have the protection of a moveable shelter and the freedom to roam on pasture.

The combination of foraging on grass, fresh air and sunshine, and plenty of feed, fresh water, and comfortable dry shelter produces a delicious, tender bird full of flavor. We pride ourselves on the quality of our chicken, and are often told ours is the best chicken ever tasted!

Laying chickens running free in the yard. Ducks are a favorite on the farm, and we pasture a small group each summer. Ducks love to gobble up clover, duckweed (!) and vetch, occasionally going back to the organic grain we provide when they want a more filling meal. The rich flavor of succulent, grass-fed Peking duck is quite a treat – we don’t raise a lot of this specialty poultry, but it is certainly enjoyed while we have it!

Our flock of 100 MOFGA-certified organic laying hens moves daily to fresh grass in our mobile chicken coop; a trailer fitted with nesting boxes and roosts. The Rhode Island Red hens follow our small group of cattle on pasture, scratch up the manure piles, and eat the grubs and worms exposed by the cattle grazing. Our delicious eggs are certified organic, with vibrant orange yolks and incredible flavor.

Baby chick. Each year Little Creek Farm raises 100 MOFGA-certified organic Thanksgiving turkeys. These feisty birds take 5 months to grow from just-hatched poults to 20-25lb. giants in November. Our turkeys spend these months roaming the cattle pasture eating insects, grass, and roots as well as organic grain. (Often in the company of wild turkeys, who look quizzically at their fatter domestic cousins).

Turkeys are available by reservation anytime prior to Thanksgiving. We take a deposit of $25 to hold your reservation, and provide fresh birds for pick-up on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
